Terry Westley - Academy Manager

Terry Westley

Terry is the club's Academy Manager and is responsible for the football development of all players ageing between 9-20 years old.He joined the club in the summer of 2006.Prior to this he was Academy Manager at Derby County FC, which also included a spell as First Team Caretaker Manager in January 2006.He is a high calibre football coach with 30 years experience in football development and a proven track record in all aspects of coaching, coach education and team management. His qualifications include UEFA Pro-Licence, Academy Manager's Licence and FA Coach Educators Award (Diploma Level).

Kristjaan Speakman - Assistant Academy Manager

Kristjaan Speakman

Kristjaan joined the club in August 2006. He is responsible for the day to day management of the U9-U16 coaching programme which includes coaching players, the development of the technical programme and coach development. Having graduated with a BA (hons) in Business Management and a Certificate in Education he has previously worked within higher education as a sports science lecturer before spending six years at Derby County FC. Kristjaan possesses the UEFA 'A' Coaching Licence, Academy Manager's Licence and Youth Coaches Certificate. 

Steve Spooner- U18 Youth Coach

Steve Spooner

Steve is a former professional footballer having made over 450 league and cup appearances. He joined the club in July 2006 as U18's coach. His previous coaching experience consisted of being the Youth Coach at Rushden and Diamonds before becoming first team coach at the same club. During his time there they went on to win promotion to League One. Following this Steve moved to Notts County as first team coach. During his time at Birmingham City, the U18's have reached the FA Youth Cup Quarter Finals in 2007 and the Semi- Finals in 2009. Steve's qualifications include the UEFA 'A' Licence and he is currently in the process of completing his Academy Manager's Licence.

Phil Robinson - Head of Academy Recruitment

Phil Robinson

Phil joined the club in November 2008 to manage the local, national and international player recruitment at Birmingham City Football Club Academy. He is a former Birmingham City player who helped the club to victory in the 1991 Leyland DAF final at Wembley. In his playing career he amassed over 500 appearances for other clubs including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Notts County, Huddersfield Town and Stoke City. Phil left his playing role at Stoke to begin his coaching career at Hereford Utd as assistant manager. He subsequently went on to have a successful spell as manager at Stafford Rangers and more recently as assistant manager at Cheltenham Town before accepting the offer to rejoin the Blues. He recently completed his LMA 'Certificate in Applied Management' at Warwick University to add to his other qualifications which include a UEFA 'A' licence and Bachelor of Science Degree (First Class Hons) Physiotherapy.

Richard Beale - Head of Education

Richard Beale

Richard is responsible for the education and personal development needs of young players at the club. He is a UEFA 'A' licence coach who takes the U14 group at the Academy.  Richard possesses a Bsc (hons) Sports Science degree and a Certificate in Education. He had a year playing professionally in the United States and has played semi-professionally for Telford United and Stafford Rangers whilst currently undertaking a player-coach role with Leamington Football Club.
