reading-bluesBlues get a second chance to clinch promotion to the Premier League with this weekend's league finale away to Reading.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of Sunday's big game...

TEAM NEWS
Blues
The only definite injury absentees for Blues are Liam Ridgewell (broken leg) and David Murphy (broken knee cap).

Blues will check on the fitness of Franck Queudrue (groin) and Seb Larsson (shoulder) ahead of the game. Larsson joined in full training today (Friday) and should be fine for Sunday but there is more of a question mark over Queudrue, who has been on the treatment table this week.

If Queudrue doesn't make it then Martin Taylor is poised to make his first appearance since mid-March.

Lee Bowyer

Lee Bowyer misses the game as he serves the first of a three-match suspension following his dismissal against Preston last weekend.

Reading
James Harper (groin) and Noel Hunt (foot) definitely won't feature for the hosts.

Loanee Glen Little, who returned to his former side from parent club Portsmouth in March, will have a late fitness test.

The midfielder came off with a slight hamstring injury during the first half of the win at Norwich on Monday but could recover in time for Sunday.

FORM GUIDE
Blues' nine-game unbeaten run came to an end with last weekend's disappointing home defeat to Preston.

The 2-1 reversal to The Lilywhites not only ruined Blues' hopes of sealing promotion in front of the home fans but Ross Wallace's late winner also kept alive Reading's automatic promotion dreams.

The Royals then went to Norwich on Monday night and won 2-0 to leave them just three points behind Alex McLeish's men and with a better goal difference.

So Steve Coppell's side know that a victory on Sunday would seem them go above Blues and they would then be relying on Crystal Palace to do them a favour by taking points off third-placed Sheffield United.

However, while the Berkshire outfit are unbeaten in their last nine away games, they have failed to win at the Madejski Stadium in their last seven home outings, a run that has seen them pick up just three points and score just twice - both goals coming in the same match.

Blues' aim is simple - win on Sunday and they return to the Premier League.

MANAGER'S COMMENTS

Alex McLeish
"It was a hard couple of days after Preston where we had to stew on it but I've been through highs and lows in football.

I know the euphoria of winning and I know that if you lose such a top level game how disappointing that can be but mostly I've had highs in this professional sport of ours but when I get knocked down I'm pretty good at getting back up.

We've emphasised that to the players this week that throughout their careers they've got to bounce back and show their characters and guts.

I'm not going to say we're going to go down there and go gung-ho and people charging forward.

We're going to play with a strategy and gameplan. The team also has to defend well and we have to nullify the players that Reading have and the quality that they've got in the front areas.

Their forwards made a big difference the last time we played here at St. Andrew's. On the day their forwards did really well and our forwards weren't quite at their best but I think that we definitely have it within us to redress the balance.

It's a cup final. It's scrutinised and there's no hiding place and we just look for everyone to do their best."

"We just want to win our games and the next one is Birmingham.

It's a difficult game, they have it all to play for and it's a terrific game for the impartial viewer.

We're pleased to be part of it, we've got to confront some of our demons at home and we look forward to it.

The supporters would love to get a result just for their own team, it's great to finish on a positive, and footballers want to win.

No team likes an opponent coming there and celebrating. That applies to us, to Palace (who play Sheffield United) and to teams right through the league."

Blues 1 Reading 3
Saturday 20 December 2008
Blues suffered their biggest defeat of the season when they were beaten 3-1 by Reading just before Christmas.

Steve Coppell's side took an early first half lead direct from a Noel Hunt free kick but Blues were right back in the game on the hour mark after Kevin Phillips' goal-of-the-season strike.

But two late goals from Kevin Doyle and Kalifa Cisse earned the visitors all three points and a result that saw them leapfrog Blues into second place in the table.

Reading 2 Blues 1
Saturday 22 March 2008
Blues lost to Reading at the Madejski Stadium towards the end of last season in the first of many relegation-deciding games.

Andre Bikey's brace either side of Mauro Zarate's first goal for the club gave the home side all the points. It was a gutsy performance from the visitors but just not enough to get a share of the spoils.

THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE

Referee Howard Webb will take charge of Blues' final Championship game of the season.

The South Yorkshire-based official has refereed 41 games so far this season, where he issued 133 yellow cards and five reds.

The FIFA-listed referee has already taken charge of one Blues game so far this season.

That was the FA Cup third tie against Wolves in January at St. Andrew's, which Blues lost 2-0.

On that occasion he booked three players, including Radhi Jaidi and Nigel Quashie for Blues.

Mr Webb will be assisted by Peter Kirkup from Northamptonshire and Dave Richardson from West Yorkshire.
