Lifelong Blues fan Craig Gardner joined Blues from local rivals Aston Villa for a fee of £3m in January 2009 on a four-and-a-half year deal.

The Yardley-born midfielder is a former England Under-21 international.

Although his main position is in the centre of midfield, he can also play on the right or even at right full back when called upon. 

Gardner began his career as a trainee with Villa, before progressing through the ranks to become an established first team player.

During his time in Aston, Gardner made 79 appearances for the Villans, including picking up valuable European experience.
